The professor asked the class to discuss Ovid’s world building in the Metamorphoses.

She responded to the representation of emotion causing actions causing an environmental shift. Jealousy causing murder causing blood spilled causing the color of the flowers to change forever.

Last week when she took the train back after class, it was a familiar ride, a hurtling through sameness of feeling from the day before, a trip that was long and painful in many ways, a tour of places that were once something they no longer could be. This week, she rode through a tube of possibilities, amazed at how fast the view changed, how stops she had been through hundreds of times were newly beautiful, all her fellow passengers in on the secret.
