What makes her look back?
She walks with an open face because she likes when they see. She keeps her hair swept back and keeps a slower pace. Slow, but still purposeful. Her nose stands upturned (from genetics, not from the recent success of the television show on which she has a bit part). It’s that nose that usually gets the double-take. Why do I know that nose?
It takes more than a second for them to place her. And when they do, she’s already passed. But sometimes, she will turn and look back. Sometimes, she will almost look into their eyes, but darts her small blue orbs just over their heads at the last second (she always thought it was the eyes that would make her, not the nose). She will open her mouth an inch as if struck by an idea or an aroma in the air, and then she’ll turn and double her pace. And they are left behind, their mouth open two inches, a stupid smile spreading.
I see her walk this way often. But I can’t yet figure why sometimes she looks back and sometimes she doesn’t. I bet if we asked her, she’d claim there was no logic, that she never thought about it. I have a feeling, though, that her bottom lip would quiver, which is her tell when she lies. I always thought it was her lips that would get her noticed.
